Liverpudlian rapper Kof provides Semper with the lowdown on recording his new album and upcoming gigs

SEMPER: How are you doing and what you have you been up to?

KOF: Well, I am just in the studio right now.

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to interview Mohammed George, formerly known Gus from the Eastenders TV soap opera, and Dax O’Callaghan, one-fifth of the Euro boy band Lexington Bridge about their collaboration on the funky and uplifting track 'Broken' (2009). With Dax singing a haunting hook and Mohammed spitting some poignant bars, it has been getting “ridiculous reactions” from people who love the message within the single.

In a bar that was meant to be quiet (damn that barman), I get a chance to meet and talk with the gorgeous and warm Brie Boateng. A journalist herself, she immediately finds the whole change of position slightly disconcerting. But after a strong shot of Diet Coke, she tells me everything – well, almost.

BBM: Thanks Brie for taking the time out to talk with me. So with a name like Boateng I take it you are from Ghana?

BB: Yes, I am and it is Boateng!

As a testimony to KC’s growing popularity on the underground scene, and slowly with the mainstream, KC was hard to tag down. Mixing university and his musical career, I had to co-ordinate my diary to his schedule with military precision.

BBM: A lot of people asked where have you been, when they heard that I was interviewing you. So where have you been?
CF: We’ve been stuck in the credit crunch, like everyone else trying to stay alive and win. We’ve been away from the forefront of the scene, but have still been in the studio constantly working on material. As it is, we have enough material for at least four or five albums.
